Egungun Festival: I Only Celebrate Not Worship, Oluwo Declares as He Sues for Peace

Oluwo of Iwoland, HIM Oba (Dr.) Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has called on promoters of Egungun Festival in Iwo to respect the law in their conducts and be moderate in the celebration of the festival.

He stated Egungun is purely a celebration that should attract tourists  attention depending on the presentation of her promoters and not an object of worship.

"I don't worship Egungun.... if you want to worship Egungun... do it in your house and come and celebrate with us outside. Egungun at the palace is for Celebration and having fun.... not for thuggery, banditry and causing trouble but for children and adults to have fun"

Oba Akanbi said violence of any form will not be tolerated in the community as he reiterated his interest in the celebration of the festival as against usual worshipping.

Oluwo advised Egungun promoters to update its celebration to modern taste as a tourist attraction and funfair as against worship
