World Drug Day: 17-year Old Nigerian Girl Runs Mad After Taking Hard Drug

A 17 year old girl (name withheld)  has reacted horribly after she took an ‘illegal’ substance in Abuja. According to reports, the girl, 17, and one of her friends, 15, named favour, went to the National stadium in Abuja, where the former consumed the said illegal drug and began reacting badly to it.

Favour narrated how the incident unfolded. Apparently, she had warned her older friend from taking the said drug.

According to her, she said her older friend had experimented with drugs in the past, at her home during her brother’s birthday… and on the said day she reacted badly to it, claimed the 17 year old took a ‘small drop’.

She and her older friend and some others were hanging out. She bought Coke for them but they refused to take it and she wasn’t aware when they went to buy the drug her friend reacted to.

The one who took the drug can be seen on the floor rolling and screaming while calling Favour to take her home.

This blog recalls that June 26 is observed as International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking every year after the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on December 7, 1987, as an “expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.”

Supported each year by individuals, communities and various organizations worldwide, the global observance of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking aims to “raise awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs represent to society.”

Nigeria as a member of the United Nations has taken efforts to eradicate drug abuse amondbher citizens. In 2018, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), FCT command says it is poised to curb drug abuse and trafficking among youths in the territory through “Surprise Raiding Strategy” (SRS).

Mr. Peter Adegbe, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the command disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

He explained that SRS as the name implies involves surprise raids on the traffickers’ black spots and hideouts in the territory such as Zone 4, Bannex, Jabi and other areas in the outskirts of the FCT.

According to Adegbe, the strategy is part of the agency’s efforts in tackling drug vendors and traffickers in the territory and environs.

No doubt if this strategy is extended to other parts of the country it would greatly help in reducing the problem of drug abuse across the country
