Suspected car thief nabbed in Ogun

The Police authority in Ogun State has arrested a suspected car thief who attempted to made away with a Uber car that was snatched in Lagos.


A radio message from police control room was to the effect that a Toyota Corolla car, marked GUS 15 RU, was snatched by two armed men in Eleko area of Lagos State who were heading towards the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway with the said car.

Acting spontaneously on the information, the Divisional Police officer (DPO) of Ibafo Police Station, SP Abiodun Ayinde, quickly led his Anti-Robbery operatives to the road, where they ambushed the marauders.

According to a press release made available to Strategic Media, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated that: "About an hour later, the vehicle was sighted by the policemen, driven against traffic towards Ibadan Road,and the detectives barricaded the road".

Sensing that the game was up for them, the statement added that the two occupants of the vehicle, who both perpetrated the said crime, hopped out of the car in a bid to escape.

The crack detectives were said to had given them a hot chase during which one of the suspects escaped. The other, identified as 29-year-old Philip Efosa, was not as lucky as his fleeing accomplice and was nabbed.

Efosa, who was arrested yesterday, Monday, June 10, disclosed in his confessional statement to the police that the two-man syndicate called their victim, an Uber operator, to take them to somewhere on an agreed fee, only to snatch the car from him at gun point.

He told the investigation team that their intention was to escape with the car to Ibadan for onward delivery to a receiver.

Meanwhile, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bashir Makama, has directed that the suspect be transferred to the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS), Abeokuta who, in turn, would transfer him alongside the exhibit to the Lagos Command, where the crime was committed.

CP Makama, however, appealed to members of the public to always endeavor to promptly report any crime in their areas to the police for to enable them act quickly.
