Lagos Approves Grade Level 17 for Head Teachers

Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday approved Grade Level 17 for head teachers in the state’s schools like their counterparts in the civil service. The governor also approved the head teachers’ second demand for an increase in their running cost effective from January 2017.
Speaking at an end of the year performance review ceremony, organised by State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for head teachers of public primary schools at Grandeur Events Centre, Oregun, Ikeja, the governor urged them to support the on- going reforms in the education sector in the state. Ambode said that with the upgrade, head teachers who attained Grade Level 17, would automatically become Head Teachers-General, equivalent to the position of a Tutor–General/Permanent Secretary in the secondary school system. He requested the Head teachers to draw their school improvement plans for the 2017 and submit same to the office of the deputy governor for consideration as the plans would help them to set and achieve their goals. This, according to the governor would help government’s plans to enhance better performance in schools rather than a means of punishing officials. Governor Ambode, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule, charged head teachers and school managers in public primary schools to be self-disciplined, focused and set targets that would help them achieve excellence in all primary schools examinations in the new year.
