Oyo Shuts Five Schools

The Oyo State Government has shut five schools indefinitely over the protests on cancellation of automatic promotion in public schools. Prof. Adeniyi Olowofela, the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, announced this at a news conference in Ibadan. Three of the five schools are located in Oyo East and Atiba Local Government Areas, while the remaining two are in Akinyele. The schools shut down are Community Secondary School, Iyana Idi-Ose; Ojoo High School, Ojoo, Ibadan; and Isale Oyo Community High School, Oyo. Others are Anglican-Methodist Secondary School, Oyo; and Oba Adeyemi High school, Oyo. The commissioner said that government was determined to enforce its policy of no automatic promotion in all public schools. He said that the policy was contained in a circular sent to stakeholders in the education sector across the state on April 23, 2015.
