US varsities safe for Nigerian Students- Consulate General

The United States Consulate General in Lagos has assured Nigerian students planning to study in that country that they have nothing to fear, in spite of the shootings in some parts of the US in recent times. Speaking at the 2016 Pre-departure orientation for Nigerian students admitted to universities in the US for the 2016/2017 academic year, the Acting Public Affairs Officer, US Consulate General, Lagos, Frank Sellin, said terrorism and killings had been an issue throughout the world, but that universities in the US were fortified enough to protect students from any attacks. said it was for this reason that no student, whether citizen or international, in any of the campuses had been a victim of any of the attacks, noting that the respective institutions have adequate security measures in place to complement the external security, thus, students can be rest assured of their safety. Sellin explained that the programme, organised by the Education USA unit, was to prepare Nigerian students for their entry into American culture and enable them to make the most of their educational experience, including planning their trip, adjusting to life in America and educating them on F-1 visa rules for international students.
