SSANU Suspends FUNAAB VC, Pro Chancellor

Abeokuta — The crisis rocking the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) took a new dimension yesterday, as the local chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) suspended the embattled Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Oyewole. Also suspended were the Pro Chancellor, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe and the governing council of the institution. The body cited criminal allegation and maladministration against the affected persons and organ for taking the decision. At a congress held in front of the institution's Senate building, the Association relied and quoted Section 5.10.1 of the university's rules and regulations to take the action. Both Oyewole and Ogunlewe are currently facing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over criminal allegation by some staff of the university. The chairman of SSANU, Comrade Rotimi Fasunwon who announced the suspensions, which were approved by the whole Congress, also restricted the duo of the VC and the Pro Chancellor from further exercising their functions as officials of the university forthwith.
