6 Reasons Why We Should Be Grateful For What We Have

Many of us in so-called “developed countries” may regard the rich and famous  as role models whose image or income we would want to have ourselves. Those who live in less economically developed societies will often complain that they are not as wealthy as people living in places at the  top of the list. We complain that our phones or laptops are not fast enough or insist on getting the latest versions. We fret about issues like traffic jams or moan about our jobs. However, the truth is that these  “problems” are often trivial in comparison to the obstacles that the majority of the world’s population have to face. Here are six reasons to appreciate how privileged we are:
1. Access to clean water.
Approximately one in nine people (780 million) worldwide lack access to clean water and 3.4 million people die each year from a water-related disease.
2. Access to food.
One in eight people worldwide go hungry and in Africa it is one in four. That is 870 million people who suffer from malnourishment. Meanwhile half of the food that the world produces is wasted every year.
3. Basic literacy.
You might wish you didn’t have to go to school but don’t forget that there  are 774 million people on the planet who still can’t read or write.
4. Access to electricity.
Over 1.2 billion people worldwide have no electricity at all which means that they have no heating or air conditioning.
5. Your livelihood.
Whatever you do, it could always be worse or you might have no job at all. If you complain about your paycheck, bear in mind that almost half of the world live on less than 2.50$ a day and 80% of the world population lives on less than 10$ a day.
6. Internet connection.
Two-thirds of the world have no Internet access. The next time  you  complain about your connection speed, remember  how lucky you are to have this connection at all.
